DE MARBRE ET DE CENDRES

Basilique de Saint-Denis, Nécropole Royale. Tombeau à double étage, dit "transi" d'Henri II et de Catherine de Médicis - Henri II ici en gros plan, représenté dans la souffrance de la mort, tandis qu'à l'étage, il est représenté en majesté. L'expression m'a sidéré.

A momnumental tomb, with two level, called "un transi" ("memento mori"). Here the king of France Henri II, sculpted with the face of pain and realistic death. Here is the first level, in the second, the king is sculpted in majesty.
